The International Astronautical Federation (IAF)

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) was founded in 1951, when scientists from the field of space research gathered in an attempt to ensure a constant dialogue between the space nations, regardless of political turmoil. Today, the International Astronautical Federation is one of the world’s leading space advocacy bodies with 407 members in 71 countries, including all leading space agencies, companies, research institutions, universities, societies, associations, institutes, and museums worldwide.

IAF organizes a worldwide congress entitled International Astronautical Congress (IAC) on September or October annually. The IAC is the one place and time of the year where all global space actors come together.

Turkey has become a member of IAF in 2009 through the membership of TUBITAK. Turkey maintains its visibility and recognition in the organization through attendance to the general assembly and other meetings, as well as paper submissions to the IAC.
